A. The drug Ritalin for hyperactivity children has been over-prescribed.

B. "attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder." Encyclopedia Britannica. 2007.
Encyclopedia Britannica Online. 24 Apr. 2007 http://www.search.eb.com.ez.sccd.ctc.edu:3048/eb/article-216015.

C. The article is basically about Ritalin being prescribed to treat ADHD, and explains why it used, and what affect it has on children. I chose this article, because it was on Britannica so I know it’s legitimate, and it gave a concise overview of why Ritalin is prescribed for hyperactive children, and how it counters that hyperactivity. It’s a good foundation to start with when beginning my research for the topic.

I am choosing to write my research paper on the teaching of beat poetry in inner city schools and the effects of lack there of. I was recently in New York and went to a poetry slam. The words coming out of the mouths of 13 and 14yr old kids was profound, they had amazing things to say. I chose to use Brittianica Online because it had several articles that directly referenced my topic. One article was about inner city kids and poetry back in the 1940's, which would make an interesting juxtaposition to the inner city kids of now.

I. Video games encourage violence in teenagers and children.

II. "Violent Video Game Effects on Children and Adolescents: Theory, Research, and Public Policy",
Dudley Barlow. The Education Digest. Ann Arbor: Feb 2007. Vol 72, Issue 6, pg 79.
http://proquest.umi.com.ez.sccd.ctc.edu:3048

III. I want to explore the research being done on this subject because I believe that children are influenced by the violence they experience through the media. My twins want to play video games even though they're only 4 and I want to make informed choices about what to say no to.

This article is actually a book review published in an education journal. I did not think an encyclopedia would be the best source, since this is a current and hotly debated issue, but I want to find the book, published in 2007 by Oxford University Press. According the reviewer, the authors present an overview of the research on the effects of violent video games, and describe the reaction of the games industry to findings that exposure to violent media is a major risk factor for later agressive behavior.

I found the reference to the review in the Proquest database through the NSCC library website.

A. The effects of illegal drugs on the body
B. "drug use." Encyclopædia Britannica. 2007. Encyclopædia Britannica Online. 25 Apr. 2007 http://www.search.eb.com.ez.sccd.ctc.edu:3048/eb/article-9110090.
C. This article explains how different drugs effect your body and the feelings you feel when talking the drug. It includes hallucinogenics, stimulants, narcotics, depressants, and cannabis. I am interested in learning more about this topic because drug abuse and the affects of drugs is a very prevalent issue in our world today.
