I would agree with the tip "turn it off and take a break." I was very distressed by the amount of information they were showing on CNN, like they were thirsty for more gruesome details or photographs. It was such a breakthrough for them to find that video of the "gunshots" and i thought this alone was disgusting. We don't need to hear the gunshots on campus that day. It does not prevent anything, and it doesn't help to honor and remember those that were gone. Nor do we need to see the video footage of the man who created these vicious crimes. I believe that it was great how they showed pictures of those loss, and told their stories, and shared their memories, but that's all it should be. A time of remeberance, not a time to review the videos and photos he left behind for us to sit in "awe" watching, CNN did exactly what he wanted, and is that guy who we want to please?

The aftermath of the Virginia Tech was such a tragedy for everyone. While some felt the incident took place close to their life and distressed, the other felt the incident took place far away from their life and they were having hard time to associate with the incident. However we felt about it, I found the information very useful for any stressful occasions. I have my own lists what I can do when I am stressed out. They are similar to the ones that are suggested in the reading, but my lists are more personalized. I categorized the lists depends on my level of stress and kept adding whenever I found better way to manage my stress. I also found it is better to make these lists when I am not stressed out. I would like to share some of my lists. Ride buses (with my son) to visit all organic bakeries in Seattle. Walk (with my son) with water bottles and a stick that decides the direction to go. Play Sudoku. Call my family in Japan. Clean up a bath tub and take a bath. I hope everyone has his/her own lists to cope with stress and enjoy trying them. Chigusa

The tradgedy that happened at Virginia Tech that day will live in my heart and many others for years to come. This hits so close to home, because like me, many of the victims were young college students and professors. This article has lots of helpful things when dealing with a loss or a tradgic event like this one. Although, these kinds of things are a high emotional strain and can take time to recover from. Like Jayme, I agree that it was nice to honor the victims and give their names so that I can keep them in my prayers, but the details and footage displayed on public television was far too much.

First of all, I completely agree with Jayme! I got so sick and tired of hearing about that guy and all he left behind. I started out by mourning but it quickly led to anger. I got tired of hearing about what type of gun he got and how he got it and he shouldn't have got it. That's just a little of what I have to say on that aspect.
What cought me the most off guard was after a few days that this had passed, I went to school and my teacher asked if we would all feel better if she locked the door. It wasn't until that moment that I realized that this sort of thing could happen any where. I got a call later that night from my dad. He,too, works at a community college in Yakima. They recieved threats of a shooting and the school had to be closed. Until that moment, I never realized how scary this sort of thing is. It makes me some what angry at myself that it took me a threat to my father to start really caring. I felt selfish. I couldn't believe that these kids in Virginia had no clue that their life was about to end.
Form the article, what stood out to me the most was the first point it made about Talking about it. I don't like to talk about sad events. I lost my mother as a young girl and I still don't talk about that. So talking about such a tragic event like this one seemed like it would only make things harder. But I started realizing that the more I talk about things, the easier it made it to cope with the loss. So I can not only mourn for those people in Virginia but I can relate.
