Article #1
Research topic: Legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes.
Scholarly journal from the Canadian Medical Association:
Laura,Eggertson. Canadian Medical Association. Journal.Ottawa:Mar 2, 2004.Vol.170,Iss.5,p.781 (1 pp.)
Search stradegy: Keyords- marijuana legal medical These seemed to be the most common words found in my last seach on britanica so I thought I would stick with the same keywords.
It is a very credible source first off because it is on Proquest. Also, it was listed as a scholarly journal so it must be ligit. Also, the department it came from was the Canadian Medical Association. It is very relevant to my topic because it is talking about how easy it has become to access marijuana for medicinal purposes such as only needing a signature from one doctor. Also, this was published in 2004 so it is still considered very credible. The only thing I would say about this article as not being that effective it that there isn't much depth. The entire article is only 138 words so there really wasn't much said.
Article #2
This article is from The World and I. Washington
David C Slade. The World & I. Washington:Nov 2001. Vol. 16, Iss. 11, p. 56-57
Keywords: (subjects) Supreme Court Decisions, State Laws, Marijuana I narrowed down my search a little more to where I was only left with 24 scholarly journals!
I liked this article because it talks about real life court hearings that involve the fight to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes and how it always gets rejected.
The source isn't as credible as the other one because it is a periodical so there is a lot more room for interpretation. Also, it dates back to 2001 so there may be a chance that supreme court has changed their minds a little. But I mostly chose this one because it gave a differnt aspect on this topic. It came from a completely different angle.
I really enjoyed using ProQuest. I felt it was a lot easier to understand after learning about it in class. It also helped out a lot knowing I could narrow my search to help weed out the articles that weren't so relevant. Also, the format is just really simple to use. I found it very helpful for someone like me who isn't all that great with computers!
